Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Like you, I have been angered by the news of late regarding priest sexual abuse
of children and subsequent cover up by some bishops. This crisis has brought into
sharp focus the need to always put the well-being of the people of our community
first, especially our children.
It has also brought to light the need for real reform within the structures of the
church. On Sunday August 19, I addressed this in my homily. A link to it is included
here https://stvdep.org/mediacast/homily-for-the-twentieth-sunday-in-ordinary-time-2018/
if you wish to listen to it.
While I do not have all the answers to where we go from here, I am open to listening
to and praying with you. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me.
As a community, we will have an evening of prayer on Tuesday September 4. We will
have adoration of the Blessed Sacrament from 6-8pm. I invite you to come before
the Lord in the quiet of our church to pray for all the victims of clergy sexual
abuse and their families, and for all the People of God.
We will light a candle to remember the victims and their families which will burn
at the side altar depicting the Agony in the Garden. The candle will remain there
permanently to symbolize our continued prayers for the victims and their families.
Sincerely Yours in Christ,
Fr. Jeremy Dixon, C.M.
