Dedication to Our Lady
In honor of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Association of the Miraculous Medal, the Chamber Chorale dedicates this season to music in devotion to our Blessed Mother.
The Association of the Miraculous Medal was founded by Vincentian priests of the Western Province in honor of the Blessed Mother’s apparition to St. Catherine Labouré, a novice with the Daughters of Charity.
Mary directed Catherine to have the Miraculous Medal struck and distributed. Countless numbers of people who have worn the medal have experienced the graciousness of God’s love and mercy through the intercession of our Blessed Mother.
The Vincentian devotion of the Miraculous Medal is one of hundreds of Marian devotions throughout the world. The Church of Rome, together with the Eastern Rite Churches and those of Orthodox traditions, have assigned days of the liturgical year for Marian devotions.
Throughout the centuries, the Church has turned to the Blessed Virgin in order to come closer to Christ. Many forms of piety toward the Mother of God help bring us closer to her Son. In these devotions to Mary, “while the Mother is honored, the Son, through whom all things have their being and in whom it has pleased the Father that all fullness should dwell, is rightly known, loved and glorified and . . . all His commands are observed. (Lumen gentium, no. 66)”
The Church honors Mary as the Mother of God, looks to her as a model of perfect discipleship, and asks for her prayers to God on our behalf.
