Great Books and God

February 17, 2015 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Mardi Gras The Alternative Way

Join Great Books and God at 6:30pm on Tuesday, February 17th when we meet to discuss Eager to Love: The Alternative Way of Francis of Assisi (Franciscan Media, 2014) by Richard Rohr, O.F.M.

St. Francis of Assisi found an “alternative way” to follow Jesus, one that disregarded power and privilege and held fast to the narrow path of the Gospel.  Author, Richard Rohr, O.F.M., draws on Scripture, insights from psychology, and literary and artistic references, to weave together an understanding of St. Francis in a way that can deepen and enrich our spiritual lives.  St. Francis was, as Rohr notes, a master of ‘making room for it’ and letting go of that which was tired or empty.”

Eager to Love is not a biography, but an examination of themes in Francis’s ministry that can help inspire and motivate people of faith.  Francis of Assisi focused primarily on loving and being in solidarity with the poor, suffering, and outcast.

Great Books and God is an “open enrollment” book club.  Members choose the books we read and can join at any time.  If you have questions, contact Dean at deanvaeth@comcast.net or just drop in on Tuesday, February 17th in the Parish Center at 6:30pm for discussion and light snacks.  Read the book.  Bring a friend.
