Resolve to Read Nouwen then in 2015
Join Great Books and God at 6:30pm on Tuesday, January 13th when we meet to discuss Reaching Out (Doubleday, 1986), by Henri Nouwen.
Reaching Out presents a plan for living a spiritual life in three movements. The first, from loneliness to solitude, focuses on the spiritual life as it relates to the experience of our own selves. The second, from hostility to hospitality, deals with our spiritual life as a life for others. The final movement, from illusion to prayer, offers penetrating thoughts on the most mysterious relationship of all: our relationship to God.
Henri J. M. Nouwen was a Catholic Priest who taught at several theological institutes and universities in his home country of the Netherlands and in the United States. He spent the final years of his life teaching and ministering to the mentally and physically disabled at the L’Arche Daybreak Community in Toronto, Canada.
Great Books and God is an “open enrollment” book club. Members choose the books we read and can join at any time. If you have questions, contact Dean at deanvaeth@comcast.net or just drop in on Tuesday, January 13th in the Parish Center at 6:30pm for discussion, light snacks, and our New Year’s resolutions. Bring the book. Bring a friend.
