Homily from Second Sunday of Easter 2018

Almost everyone has had their heart broken or been hurt by someone they love. And when that happens, we can build defenses so we don’t get hurt again. We don’t trust, but we also don’t love. Perhaps this is how Thomas felt after the crucifixion. His heart was broken, and he didn’t want to risk more when the others told him they saw Jesus. Jesus didn’t leave him but came to him and helped him to love and believe. Jesus does the same with us and our hurts and wounds, helping us to grow and to risk to love.
